I need some new saucepans

...and not Thai flavour.
To celebrate my new drum I want to get a new set of saucepans for the kitchen - which has a WEST HAM fridge magnet proudly stuck on the fridge door.
So, knowing that it's a given that WHO knows everything, even that which is unknowable, what is best?
I'm thinking of either cast iron or copper bottomed (ooh-err).

Putting 3 kids through Uni tends to unload one's account somewhat.
Anyhow, never knew Michelin had awarded WHO black holes, let alone stars, so thanks to all.
Oh, and i'm cooking with gas (it's free). The retirement drum in Thailand doesn't have a hob. In fact, it doesn't even have a kitchen, so long term I'm not to bothered.

I did this last year after I lost the Mrs and I bought a set of Pro-cook which I'm very happy with. Probably Crueset may suit you better though Mike as I hear you are loaded.

Sorry boys,
In term of metal always go German over French, see my post below.
Don't need the pretty colours, just function. (More seriously Le Crueset does have their place , can't make Cassoulet in anything else, but not for saucepans.)

Le Crueset.
Look brilliant, great colours.
Stove top to table, because they look so good.
You'll never have to replace them, so long term investment.
If you drop lids or crack handle tops, you can buy replacements on ebay.

Le Crueset are the best but not always the most practical...even if you have the strongest pair of wrists (fnarr, fnarr)
A grill pan for steak or casserole pan that goes in the oven then I agree...they are the best

The Original Greenpan are pretty good.
I bought a casserole pan which is pretty damn good. They have induction and ceramic versions too.

Admiral Lard 11:01 , very true . I have a casserole dish of theirs, weighs a ton , in the oven or for frying ,anything . Nothing sticks or burns.

1 x cast iron skillet (never use soap to wash it. Better if you just wipe it over after cooking)
1 x cast iron Dutch oven/stew pot
What more does a man need apart from a bbq?

Have the traditional stainless steel in five sizes. Stellar brand. Cost about £130 and that was donkeys ago. Decent wares, but buggers to clean sometimes.
AND YET! In a charity shop last year, on a whim, snapped up a huge CERAMIC deep sided "frying" pan, looked brand new. It resembles granite. And is very heavy. Don't really fry in it, as dont like fried food. Takes a while to warm up but is so easy to clean. You can cook practically anything in these tings. To the Red Cross, £4. Winning.
Our Stellar saucepans are since feeling unloved, except for a little light boiling.
True story, bro. Heed my advice. HEAVYWEIGHT CERAMIC.
(If you can't stand my treat, get out of the kitchen.)

Get pans which are suitable for induction hobs. Even if your new place has a conventional cooker, the chances are that the next one you buy will be induction, and you'd have to throw your pans away if they weren't compatible.

Try H&P's missus, she might provide you with a new set, although i don't know if H&P will want to watch and clean up? That may not be your thing though.

Mike, if you really enjoy your cooking (Or Lady Oxshaw) look no further than Le Creuset.
Expensive but, you will not have to buy again for the rest of your life

Mine are very old so you would need to research what their top line is called these days, they seem to change the branding kind of regularly.
Usually it will have twin guys in the logo rather than one.
